Arshdeep Singh Faces Backlash Amid Punjab Kings' Struggles in IPL 2026

Arshdeep Singh, the Punjab Kings pacer, is in the spotlight for his sharp remarks towards a fan criticizing the team's performance during a five-match losing streak in IPL 2026. His previous controversies, including an alleged racist comment and scrutiny over his vlogs, have added to the drama. As the team struggles to maintain playoff hopes, Arshdeep's relationship with fans has soured. With the Kings needing to win their remaining matches, the pressure is on. Will they turn their fortunes around, or will the controversies overshadow their season?

Controversy Surrounds Arshdeep Singh

Arshdeep Singh, a pacer for the Punjab Kings (PBKS), has found himself at the center of controversy after responding sharply to a fan's criticism regarding the team's ongoing five-match losing streak in IPL 2026.

The left-arm bowler has been making headlines for negative reasons during this IPL season. Previously, he faced backlash for allegedly making a 'racist comment' towards Mumbai Indians (MI) player Tilak Varma, referring to him as 'Andhere' (Dark one) and mockingly questioning if he had used sunscreen.

Moreover, his YouTube vlogs have come under fire after a video seemingly captured teammate Yuzvendra Chahal vaping on a flight from Ahmedabad to Hyderabad.

Arshdeep's Response to Fan Criticism

In light of the ongoing controversies, Arshdeep Singh opted to confront his critics directly. A fan on Snapchat expressed disappointment over the Punjab Kings' performance, suggesting they should remove 'Punjab' from their name to avoid further embarrassment.

The fan commented, 'Please remove Punjab from the IPL. Why are you insulting us, my friend?'

In a bold response that quickly went viral, Arshdeep retorted, 'What have you done for Punjab that you felt embarrassed, Singh saab? People who still ask their family for money for snacks are now advising me on whether to keep the name or not?'

Arshdeep's Performance Amid Team Struggles

Representing the Punjab Kings for the eighth consecutive season, Arshdeep has been a key player in the franchise's bowling lineup since his debut in 2019. Despite being the leading wicket-taker for PBKS over the years, his relationship with fans has soured during this challenging 2026 season.

So far in IPL 2026, he has taken 13 wickets with an average of 34.30 and an economy rate of 9.69 across 12 matches.

Punjab Kings' Mid-Season Collapse

Under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer, who guided the team to a runners-up finish last season, the Punjab Kings started strong, remaining unbeaten for seven matches, including six wins and one no result, which placed them at the top of the points table.

However, their fortunes have drastically changed, as they have failed to secure a win in their last five matches, putting their playoff hopes in jeopardy.

The last victory for PBKS was against the Delhi Capitals on April 25, and they currently sit stagnant at 13 points, needing to win their remaining two matches against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Lucknow Super Giants to keep their playoff aspirations alive.

If they fail to win, the team will have to depend on favorable outcomes from other matches and a better Net Run Rate to maintain their championship hopes.
