Investigation into Allegations Against KGMU Doctor

The police may seek custody of Ramizuddin Naik, a junior resident doctor at King George's Medical University (KGMU) in Lucknow, who was arrested on charges of sexual exploitation, conversion, and love jihad. Sources revealed this information on Saturday.

Naik, who had a bounty of ₹50,000 on his head, was apprehended by the Lucknow police on Friday evening. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Vishwajeet Srivastava stated that the police will investigate events leading up to the alleged crimes.

He mentioned that the investigation will cover the circumstances prior to the incident, the communication between the complainant and the accused, the alleged planning of the crime, and the involvement of other individuals.

According to police sources, inquiries will also focus on Naik's alleged involvement in conversion and abortion-related accusations, and investigators may question family members, including his father, regarding their roles.

Naik's father is accused of marrying multiple women and facilitating their illegal conversion. Authorities indicated that during the custody period, they will review mobile phones, documents, and other digital evidence to uncover the entire network.

A female resident doctor from KGMU has accused Naik of concealing his marriage, sexually exploiting her under the pretense of marriage, forcing her to undergo an abortion, threatening her, and pressuring her for conversion. A case was registered against him on December 22 under various charges, including rape, criminal intimidation, and the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act, 2021.

Professor Sonia Nityanand, the Vice-Chancellor of KGMU, announced on Friday that Naik was suspended on December 22 and prohibited from entering the campus. She stated that a seven-member internal committee of the university found all allegations against him to be valid and submitted their report to the state government.

Based on this report, the university has proposed Naik's dismissal to the Directorate of Medical Education, which may recommend the cancellation of his admission to the junior residency program to the National Medical Commission. The police had previously announced a reward of ₹50,000 for Naik's arrest. His parents were taken into custody on January 5.
