Arrest Made in Disturbing Minor Abuse Case in South Goa
Arrest Following Public Outcry
In the early hours of Monday, South Goa Police apprehended 20-year-old Soham Sushant Naik amid significant public outrage regarding an alleged sex scandal involving 25 to 30 underage girls. Naik, who resides in Madegal-Cacora and is the son of a BJP municipal councillor, was taken into custody after a group of concerned citizens and local leaders protested outside the police station.
The investigation has revealed a troubling pattern of abuse that appears to have persisted for three years. Initial reports indicate that the son of the BJP corporator allegedly engaged in sexual activities with multiple minors, recording these encounters and using the footage to intimidate the victims into silence.
The scandal first emerged last week when Naik reportedly bragged about his actions at a social event, displaying explicit videos of the victims to his friends. As rumors about the recordings circulated throughout South Goa, tensions escalated significantly.
Prior to the arrest, discussions about the case had been ongoing in South Goa for several days. Local residents gathered at the Kudchade police station on Sunday night, demanding action due to the involvement of a local BJP official. Ultimately, police detained Soham Naik.
The arrest followed an incident where the accused shared videos with friends during a drinking party, leading to the exposure of years of alleged sexual abuse of minors by the BJP leader's son.
On Sunday, residents of Curchorem marched to the police station, insisting on a thorough investigation into the alleged sex racket involving minors.
Protesters threatened to initiate a bandh if the police did not act swiftly and arrest the accused within 48 hours. They also urged the police to file a suo motu FIR in the case instead of waiting for victims to come forward.
Amit Patkar, the state Congress president, called on the government to take immediate action, urging a prompt, impartial, and time-bound inquiry into this horrific situation.
Currently, the South Goa Police are examining digital evidence to assess the extent of the exploitation of the minor girls by Soham Sushant Naik.
Naik remains in custody as forensic teams work to retrieve the alleged videos used for blackmailing the minors.
