Police Capture Suspect in Badaun Homicide

In a significant development, the Badaun police apprehended Ajay Pratap Singh, also known as Ramu, the prime suspect in the murder of the Deputy General Manager and Assistant Sales Manager at the HPCL plant. According to police reports, while being taken to recover the firearm used in the crime, Singh unexpectedly opened fire on the police team. In response, law enforcement returned fire, resulting in Singh sustaining gunshot wounds to both legs. Additionally, police officer Ombeer Singh was injured during the exchange.

The tragic incident occurred on March 12 at the Hindustan Petroleum CBG (Compressed Biogas) plant, where the two officials were shot in broad daylight. Following the attack, the suspect fled the scene. Initial investigations suggest that Singh, a former employee who was dismissed from his position, may have acted out of anger towards the management.

Details of the Incident

The shooting took place at the HPCL plant located in the village of Saijani, within the Dataganj tehsil area. Reports indicate that around 1 PM, the Deputy General Manager, Sudhir Gupta, and Assistant Sales Manager, Harshit Mishra, were present in their office when Singh, accompanied by accomplices, forcibly entered the premises in a Bolero vehicle. Upon entering, he began verbally assaulting the officials. When they protested, Singh and his associates opened fire indiscriminately, leading to the fatal injuries of Gupta and Mishra, who were later pronounced dead by medical personnel.

Motivation Behind the Attack

Sources reveal that Singh had been blacklisted and terminated from his job approximately three months prior, which had led to ongoing disputes with the management. The police noted that Singh had previously threatened the officials' lives, and a case regarding these threats was already pending in court. Given the potential danger, the officials had requested police protection. Upon receiving news of the incident, District Magistrate Avneesh Rai, SSP Dr. Brijesh Kumar Singh, and DIG of Bareilly Range arrived at the scene to oversee the investigation. Forensic teams have also been deployed to collect evidence.
