Inauguration of the Sacred Amarnath Yatra
The annual Amarnath Yatra has officially commenced today, taking place at an elevation of approximately 3,880 meters in the southern Kashmir Himalayas. Early in the morning, groups of devotees set off from the traditional Nunwan Pahalgam route and the Baltal route to seek blessings from Baba Barfani. Despite intermittent rain and chilly weather, the enthusiasm among the pilgrims remained undeterred. With the start of the journey, chants of 'Bam Bam Bhole' and 'Har Har Mahadev' resonated throughout the region.
Routes and Pilgrim Participation
According to officials, the pilgrimage is being conducted via two main routes. The Nunwan Pahalgam route in Anantnag district spans approximately 48 kilometers, while the Baltal route in Ganderbal district is about 14 kilometers long. Although the Baltal route is shorter, it is considered more challenging. A significant number of men, women, sadhus, and Shiva devotees from various states are participating in the yatra. Local deputy commissioners and senior police officers flagged off the groups from the base camps.
