Protests Erupt Over Stray Dog Relocation Decision

A significant gathering of animal rights advocates and caretakers took place at Jantar Mantar on Friday, ahead of the Supreme Court's ruling regarding the relocation of stray dogs.

These activists expressed their discontent with the recent directive from the Supreme Court, which mandates the removal of all stray dogs from the streets of Delhi-NCR to shelters. Animal welfare organizations have criticized this order, arguing that the facilities at these shelters are inadequate.

According to these groups, the Animal Birth Control (ABC) program is the only legitimate and humane solution, which involves sterilizing and vaccinating dogs before returning them to their original locations. Activists are calling for the reversal of this decision.

One activist mentioned that they had been awake since 4 AM, praying for a favorable outcome for animal lovers. Another protester stated, 'If we lose today, I will leave the country for a while. I cannot bear this pain. I will send the dogs to a shelter and cover their care expenses every month.'

Simran Kaur, another demonstrator, highlighted the concerns of millions of Delhi residents, emphasizing the deep emotional bond between the city's inhabitants and stray dogs. The Supreme Court had reserved its order on August 14, and it is expected to announce its decision on this matter today.
