Anil Ambani Initiates Defamation Lawsuit Against Republic TV and Arnab Goswami
Defamation Case Filed by Anil Ambani
Business tycoon Anil Ambani has lodged a defamation lawsuit in the Bombay High Court against Republic TV and its editor, Arnab Goswami. He alleges that the channel's reports regarding his financial dealings have severely harmed his reputation, as reported on Saturday.
Justice Milind Jadhav is set to review the petition, which seeks a temporary injunction against ARG Outlier, the parent company of Republic TV, along with Goswami and other unidentified parties, on Wednesday.
In his legal filing, Ambani expressed that he is distressed by articles written and disseminated by the defendants through their news outlets and social media channels.
The suit claims that the contentious publications and statements pertain to regulatory actions initiated by the Enforcement Directorate concerning Reliance Communications Limited, Reliance Home Finance Limited, and Reliance Commercial Finance Limited.
According to the lawsuit, both Republic TV and Goswami were aware that Ambani had stepped down as the non-executive director of Reliance Communications Limited in November 2019 and had never held any managerial role in the aforementioned companies.
“The companies operate as separate entities, and the applicant was not engaged in the daily management or decision-making processes,” the suit states.
It further claims, “Despite being aware of these facts, the defendants have maliciously and irresponsibly suggested a damaging personal link between the ongoing investigations related to the companies and the applicant.”
Ambani's lawsuit asserts that the defendants have consistently misrepresented him as being directly accountable for the alleged financial irregularities, employing sensational headlines, defamatory commentary, and derogatory implications.
