Andre Coley Takes the Helm as Interim Coach for West Indies Women's Cricket Team
Andre Coley's Appointment
On Tuesday, Cricket West Indies (CWI) announced that Andre Coley has been appointed as the interim head coach for the women's cricket team, just ahead of their series against Pakistan. Coley will lead the team during this series while collaborating with the current support staff, as reported by the ICC. The Jamaican coach has a wealth of experience, having held various coaching positions within West Indies cricket, including a notable role as head coach for the men's team during the 2010 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup, where they secured a third-place finish.
Coaching Transition
Coley succeeds Shane Deitz, who has been the head coach of the women's team for the last three years. Deitz's departure was confirmed by CWI, stating that his tenure officially concluded on October 31, following a mutually agreed decision. Under his leadership, the West Indies women's team reached the semi-finals of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup in both 2024 and 2026.
Looking Back and Moving Forward
Reflecting on his time, Deitz expressed gratitude, stating, "I look back on a successful three years, and I want to thank the players, the staff, and Cricket West Indies for their support. I wish the team every success." He emphasized the significance of reaching two consecutive World Cup semi-finals, setting a high standard for the team. CWI's director of cricket, Miles Bascombe, acknowledged Coley's extensive experience within the West Indies cricket framework, including his recent involvement with the Men's A-Team, and expressed appreciation for his readiness to ensure a smooth transition as the team prepares for the upcoming matches against Pakistan.
The West Indies women's team recently enjoyed a successful run, winning a 2-1 ODI series and a clean sweep of 3-0 in the T20I series against Zimbabwe.
