Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Announces Financial Incentives for Families with More Children

In a bold move to counteract the declining birth rate in Andhra Pradesh, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has announced financial incentives for families. Families will receive ₹30,000 for a third child and ₹40,000 for a fourth child. This initiative aims to encourage larger families and will be detailed further in the coming month. Naidu has expressed concerns about the current trend of smaller families, particularly among affluent households, and emphasizes the need for a stable population growth rate. The announcement follows a previous proposal to support families with a second child. This new approach marks a significant shift in the state's population policy.

Major Announcement by the Chief Minister

On Saturday, Andhra Pradesh's Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu made a significant announcement aimed at the state's residents. He revealed that families would receive financial assistance of ₹30,000 for the birth of a third child and ₹40,000 for a fourth child. This initiative is part of the government's efforts to address the declining birth rate in the state.

Details Shared at Public Gathering

While addressing a public gathering in Narsannapeta, Srikakulam district, the Chief Minister stated that the government has made this decision. Comprehensive details regarding this scheme will be presented to the public within a month.

Statement During Cleanliness Program

In a separate event related to the 'Swarn Andhra - Swachh Andhra' cleanliness initiative, Naidu communicated with the public, saying, "I have made a new decision. We will provide ₹30,000 immediately after the birth of a third child and ₹40,000 for a fourth child. Isn't this a good decision?"

Shift in Population Control Approach

It is noteworthy that Chief Minister Naidu had previously supported measures for population control, but he now believes it is time for society to collaborate in increasing the birth rate.

Proposal for Second Child Assistance

This announcement regarding incentives for the third and fourth children follows an earlier proposal. On March 5, the Chief Minister mentioned in the assembly that the state government was considering providing ₹25,000 to couples for the birth of a second child.

Concerns Over Declining Population

Naidu expressed concern that many affluent families prefer to have only one child, while some only consider a second child if their firstborn is a boy. He warned that this mindset is contributing to a rapid decline in the state's population growth rate. He emphasized the need to stabilize the population by achieving a 'total fertility rate' of 2.1, explaining that a balanced and stable population requires an average of 2.1 children per woman.
