Anahat Singh Triumphs at HCL Squash Indian Tour 4, Velavan Senthilkumar Wins Men's Title
Anahat Singh's Continued Success
India's promising squash player, Anahat Singh, maintained her impressive streak by defeating veteran Joshna Chinappa to clinch the women's title at the HCL Squash Indian Tour 4 held in Chennai on Friday. In the men's category, Velavan Senthilkumar emerged victorious against Egypt's Adam Hawal to secure the men's championship.
Anahat's Dominance Over Chinappa
The 17-year-old Anahat, who is the tournament's top seed and currently ranked 29th in the world, triumphed over the 39-year-old Chinappa with a score of 3-2 (11-8, 11-13, 11-13, 11-6, 11-8) in a match that lasted 52 minutes. This victory marks Anahat's third consecutive win against Chinappa in their recent encounters, as noted by Olympics.com.
Previously, the two faced off in the SRFI Indian Open final last month, where Anahat also won with a similar scoreline. Earlier in March, during the Indian Open in Mumbai, she defeated Chinappa 3-1 in the semifinals to advance to the finals.
Anahat's Unbeaten Run
Leading up to the finals, Anahat showcased her skill by not losing any games. After receiving a bye in the first round, she secured victories against Tamara Holzbauerova from Czechia, Japan's Akari Midorikawa, and South Africa's third seed Hayley Ward.
A Stellar Season for Anahat
This victory marks Anahat's fourth title this season, adding to her previous wins at the Indian Open in Mumbai, the SRFI Indian Tour title in Chennai, and the SRFI Indian Open 2025 tournament in Indore. Notably, this is her 14th title from the Professional Squash Association (PSA) while participating in just her 21st PSA event.
Anahat has been in exceptional form this season, having previously defeated seventh-ranked Tinne Gilis and world No. 20 Melissa Alves, before narrowly losing to world No. 10 Georgina Kennedy in the semifinals of the Canadian Women's Open in October.
In August, she made history as the first Indian woman to reach the finals of a PSA World Tour Copper-level event at the NSW Squash Bega Open 2025 in Australia. By the end of 2024, Anahat had amassed an impressive nine PSA Challenger titles.
