DIBRUGARH, April 24: Amritpal Singh, the leader of 'Waris Punjab De', has been taken into police custody again on a two-day remand shortly after being released from detention under the National Security Act (NSA) at Dibrugarh Central Jail.

Sources indicate that Singh, who serves as the Member of Parliament for the Khadoor Sahib constituency in Punjab, has been re-arrested in relation to FIR No. 39 of 2023 filed at Ajnala Police Station. This case stems from a February 2023 incident where his supporters reportedly clashed with law enforcement and forcibly entered a police station to demand the release of one of their associates. The allegations against him include serious charges such as rioting, unlawful assembly, attempted murder, and hindering public officials in their duties.

In light of his re-arrest, the Punjab Police secured a two-day transit remand from the court to aid in further investigations. During this time, a team from the Punjab Police will interrogate him at Dibrugarh Central Jail, where he was previously held under NSA detention.

This new remand aims to collect more evidence, clarify Singh's involvement in the Ajnala incident, and explore potential connections to other ongoing investigations. Given the sensitive nature of the case, security measures have been intensified.
