AMMK Unveils Ambitious 120-Point Election Manifesto for Tamil Nadu 2026
Key Promises in the AMMK Manifesto
In preparation for the 2026 elections, the Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) has introduced a comprehensive 120-point manifesto aimed at addressing various issues for the Tamil community. The party's general secretary, TTV Dhinakaran, announced significant commitments including reserving 85% of state jobs for Tamil speakers, forgiving agricultural loans, reinstating the old pension scheme, and advocating for the Bharat Ratna award for former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa.
Focus on Employment and Language Promotion
Dhinakaran emphasized that a major promise is to ensure that 85% of employment opportunities in both state and central government institutions are allocated to Tamil-speaking individuals. The manifesto also highlights the promotion of the Tamil language, declaring it as the official language of the Tamil Nadu government, which will be enforced in the High Court as well.
Support for Farmers and Rural Employment
In a bid to support the agricultural sector, particularly farmers, AMMK has pledged to fully waive all agricultural loans. Addressing inter-state water disputes, Dhinakaran assured that the long-standing Cauvery-Mekedatu dam issue would be resolved through appropriate measures. Additionally, the party plans to extend the current 100-day employment scheme to 150 days for rural workers, along with increasing their wages.
Commitment to Law and Order
The manifesto also includes a commitment to grant full operational autonomy to the Tamil Nadu police to ensure better law and order, which Dhinakaran criticized as being restricted under the current DMK administration. Furthermore, AMMK plans to implement a new excise policy.
Revival of the Old Pension Scheme
For government employees, the party has promised to reinstate the old pension scheme. The manifesto also mentions efforts to secure the Bharat Ratna for former Chief Ministers J. Jayalalithaa and Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar. Dhinakaran announced that he would commence his election campaign across Tamil Nadu starting April 6, highlighting that AMMK has achieved significant victories in preferred constituencies through the NDA alliance led by AIADMK.
