Amit Shah's Strategic Visit to Kolkata Ahead of Elections
Amit Shah's Engagements in Kolkata
On Wednesday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah will hold two meetings with leaders and workers of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Kolkata, as confirmed by party sources. This marks the final day of his three-day visit to West Bengal.
According to sources, Shah is scheduled to offer prayers at the Thanthania Kali Temple in North Kolkata. His visit comes ahead of the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections.
Elections in the state are anticipated to take place in March-April next year. As per the agenda, the Home Minister will engage with elected representatives at a hotel around 11:30 AM. Later, he will meet grassroots workers at the Science City auditorium around 1:45 PM, followed by a visit to the Devi Kali Temple at approximately 3:30 PM before departing for New Delhi.
Strategic Meetings and Political Allegations
Earlier, on Tuesday, Amit Shah conducted a crucial strategy meeting in Kolkata with the BJP's core team and migrant workers in preparation for the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections. Key figures present included Bengal BJP President Samik Bhattacharya, Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly Suvendu Adhikari, and Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar.
During his visit to the eastern state, Shah asserted that the people of West Bengal are ready to support a BJP government that prioritizes reclaiming the state's heritage, advancing development, and focusing on 'poor welfare'.
In a press conference on Tuesday, Shah criticized the Mamata Banerjee government, accusing it of "misgovernance" and illegal immigration. He stated, "December 30 is a day of pride for Indians, as it marks the anniversary of Subhas Chandra Bose hoisting the Indian flag in Port Blair in 1943. This is a significant time for Bengal, leading up to the elections in April, as the people are determined to choose a strong government that offers them heritage, development, and welfare instead of fear, corruption, misgovernance, and infiltration."
