Amit Shah Leads Meeting on Population Changes in Border Areas
Meeting on Population Dynamics
Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a meeting today focused on changes in population dynamics, directing the commission to investigate these shifts in border districts. During the session, Shah instructed the commission to assess conditions by visiting border regions, metropolitan cities, and industrial towns. Last month, the central government established a high-level committee to study population changes due to illegal immigration and other unusual factors, as well as to propose solutions.

Officials reported that while presiding over the committee meeting, Shah emphasized the need for the committee to evaluate changes caused by illegal migration and other unusual factors through visits to border areas, metropolitan cities, and industrial towns. The committee is led by retired Supreme Court Justice Prakash Prabhakar Naolekar, with members including the Census Commissioner, retired IAS officer Durga Shankar Mishra, former IPS officer Balaji Srivastava, and Dr. Shamika Ravi.
The Joint Secretary (Foreign-I) of the Home Ministry serves as the committee's member secretary. When announcing the committee's formation last month, Shah highlighted that demographic changes are a critical issue. These changes are not only linked to national sovereignty but also to national security, law and order, significant shifts in social structures, and the protection of tribal communities.

He stated that this committee will conduct a comprehensive assessment of demographic changes occurring across India due to illegal immigration and other unnatural causes, analyze patterns of unusual population changes at the religious and social community levels, and propose a structured, time-bound solution. According to a government statement, the high-level committee will scientifically evaluate demographic changes in various regions of the country caused by illegal immigration and other unusual factors, investigate their causes, and recommend appropriate policy, legislative, and administrative measures.
