This initiative symbolizes a significant advancement in India's border and internal security under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The LPMS aims to enhance efficiency, transparency, and security in cross-border trade and passenger movement through technology-driven solutions, showcasing the government's commitment to smart border management.
Inauguration of Stakeholder Facilities
During the event, the Home Minister will also unveil newly developed stakeholder accommodation facilities at the Dawki (Meghalaya) and Srimantpur (Tripura) land ports. The launch of the LPMS marks a crucial step towards establishing a modern, technology-based smart border management system, aligning with India's strategic goals of enhancing trade facilitation, connectivity, and national security while aiming for a developed India by 2047.
Features of the LPMS
The LPMS is a digital platform designed to integrate the operations of land ports into a unified system. It facilitates secure, real-time exchange of logistics and regulatory information, aiming to align land ports with the digital systems operated at airports and seaports. As a neutral and open platform, the LPMS will enable seamless coordination between government agencies and private operators, reducing delays and improving operational efficiency.
Comprehensive Digital Workflow Support
This system supports a complete digital workflow for cargo and passenger processing, including slot booking, payments, tracking, and single-window clearance. It is fully integrated with national platforms such as ICEGATE, ULIP, and the motor vehicle ecosystem, enabling interoperable, efficient, and transparent border management. The Indian Land Port Authority (LPAI), a statutory body under the Ministry of Home Affairs' Border Management Department, oversees the development and management of land ports to facilitate trade, connectivity, and regional cooperation.
Current Operations of the LPAI
Currently, the LPAI operates 15 land ports along India's international borders: Atari (Punjab) and Dera Baba Nanak (Punjab) on the India-Pakistan border; Rupaidiah (Uttar Pradesh), Raxaul (Bihar), and Jogbani (Bihar) on the India-Nepal border; Daranga (Assam) on the India-Bhutan border; Petrapole (West Bengal), Dawki (Meghalaya), Sutarkandi, Golakganj, and Manikchar (Assam), Agartala, Srimantpur, and Sabroom (Tripura) on the India-Bangladesh border; and Moreh (Manipur) on the India-Myanmar border.
