Amit Shah Addresses NDA Conference in Guwahati
On Friday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah kicked off the campaign for the 2026 Assam Assembly elections during a significant conference for NDA representatives held at the Veterinary College Field in Khanapara, Guwahati. He launched a strong critique against the Congress party, asserting that Assam cannot be led by individuals who "settle infiltrators and frequently visit Pakistan." Shah emphasized that under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, the BJP has transformed the state through enhanced development and job opportunities.
Amit Shah highlighted that Himanta Biswa Sarma organized an investment summit in Assam, resulting in memorandums of understanding (MoUs) worth ₹5.18 lakh crore, with ₹1.40 lakh crore worth of projects already underway. He recalled a time when Congress had abandoned Assam, contrasting it with the current progress under Modi and Sarma's leadership, which is turning Assam into a developed state. He claimed that the BJP has restored the sanctity of the satras associated with saints Srimanta Sankardev and Madhavdev by removing encroachments made by infiltrators.
Shah also mocked the Congress's performance in the recent panchayat elections, stating, "The BJP's victory was so significant that you wouldn't find Congress even with a telescope." He noted the importance of these elections as they were the first after the delimitation in Assam. The NDA, led by the BJP, had previously achieved a substantial victory in the last panchayat elections. Targeting Gaurav Gogoi, the president of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee and deputy leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, Shah asserted that the BJP government has worked to reclaim millions of acres of land occupied by infiltrators.
In a jab at the opposition, he remarked that Gogoi is opposing these efforts. Shah stated, "Gaurav ji, oppose as much as you want. This is the BJP government, and we will reclaim every inch of land from the infiltrators, as it belongs to our youth. Assam cannot be led by those who settle infiltrators and frequently visit Pakistan. Only Modi ji and Himanta Biswa Sharma can lead Assam." The Union Home Minister urged NDA representatives and BJP-AGP party workers to prepare for the upcoming 2026 Assembly elections and ensure a third consecutive victory for the NDA in the state.
