Amit Shah Honors Sardar Patel on National Unity Day
Commemorating Sardar Patel's Legacy
On the occasion of National Unity Day, Union Home Minister Amit Shah paid tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, reflecting on his significant contributions to the unity and integrity of the nation. He noted that after independence, many political analysts doubted India's ability to remain united, yet Patel achieved what was deemed impossible in just 1,218 days.
As part of the celebrations for Patel's 151st birth anniversary on October 31, various events were held nationwide. In Delhi, a special ceremony took place where President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan, and Amit Shah laid floral tributes at Patel's statue.
During his address, Shah emphasized that Patel's influence extended beyond uniting the princely states; he played a crucial role in shaping modern India's political and geographical landscape. The vision of a united India that Patel envisioned stands strong today.
Shah remarked that when India gained independence, many experts feared that a country with such diversity and numerous princely states could not coexist. However, Patel disproved these fears.
According to Shah, Patel's efforts to unify the nation in just 1,218 days were monumental, a feat that many leaders might not achieve in their lifetime. He laid the groundwork for a robust and integrated India by weaving together various states.
Shah referred to Patel as the architect of a united India, stating that he not only influenced the country's history but also its geographical identity. Patel's ability to connect different states like pearls in a necklace was pivotal in establishing India as a cohesive nation.
He further highlighted Patel's contributions to political, geographical, and cultural integration, asserting that his foresight and strong leadership provided a solid foundation for national unity.
In his speech, Shah also criticized the Congress party, alleging that Patel had not received the recognition he deserved for a long time. He accused the party of attempting to erase Patel's legacy, but asserted that the contributions of great personalities cannot be hidden forever.
Shah mentioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi's efforts to honor Patel's legacy, particularly through the construction of the Statue of Unity in Gujarat, which has become a symbol of Patel's contributions and national unity.
Additionally, a 'Run for Unity' event was organized at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in Delhi, where Amit Shah participated and flagged off the unity run. This initiative aimed to promote the message of national unity, integrity, and harmony among citizens.
Shah concluded by stating that Patel's life serves as an inspiration of sacrifice, dedication, and patriotism. On his birth anniversary, he urged citizens to commit to maintaining national unity and integrity.
Leaders across the country, including Prime Minister Modi, also paid their respects to Patel on his anniversary. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath described Patel's life as a source of inspiration for national service and unity, while Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma recalled Patel's role in keeping Assam a part of India.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav also honored Patel's contributions during this commemorative period.
Thus, National Unity Day was marked by various events across the country, celebrating Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's historical contributions, vision, and efforts to unify the nation.
