Amit Shah Highlights Women's Role in Border Security During BSF Exhibition
Amit Shah Commends Gender Equality in BSF
On Tuesday, Union Minister Amit Shah praised the Border Security Force (BSF) for its commitment to gender equality, stating that the contributions of women in border security surpass those of men. He inaugurated a BSF exhibition at the Sanchu border post in Bikaner, Rajasthan, where he also interacted with BSF personnel and opened barracks specifically for female officers.
Significant Contributions of Women in Border Security
While addressing the gathering, Shah emphasized the importance of adopting a gender equality perspective and providing opportunities for women across various sectors. He expressed his satisfaction in noting that women's contributions to border security are significantly greater than those of their male counterparts. By 2030, all benefits will be extended to them. He mentioned that out of 79 barracks constructed for female personnel in Rajasthan, 66 have been completed.
Ongoing Projects to Enhance Female Personnel's Comfort
Shah further stated that the remaining barracks are under construction, and a project worth ₹200 crores covering 360 barracks in border areas will enable female officers to perform their duties more effectively and comfortably. In January 2016, the central government decided to reserve 14 to 15 percent of constable positions in border security forces, including BSF, SSB, and ITBP. According to a response from the Ministry of Home Affairs in December 2025, 1,680 female personnel were recruited in the fiscal year 2024-25.
