Amit Shah Enforces Zero-Tolerance Policy Against Illegal Constructions Near Borders
Strict Measures for Border Security
Union Home Minister Amit Shah has instructed officials to rigorously implement a 'zero-tolerance' policy against illegal constructions within a 15-kilometer radius of the country's borders. According to officials, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has tasked district magistrates with ensuring legal and financial compliance for banking transactions in border areas, verifying large commercial establishments, investigating their funding sources, identifying fake accounts and companies, and detecting fraudulent Aadhaar cards to curb cross-border smuggling.
Security Review Meeting in Bikaner
During a security review meeting held in Bikaner, Shah assessed security concerns related to border districts adjacent to the India-Pakistan border. Addressing BSF personnel at a border post, he remarked that previous administrations had not adequately recognized the role of women in border security and the facilities they require. He emphasized that female personnel have outpaced their male counterparts in contributing to national security, and by 2030, all necessary amenities for women deployed in border areas will be ensured.
Infrastructure Developments for Women Personnel
Shah announced the approval of 79 barracks for female personnel in Rajasthan, with 67 already completed at a cost of approximately ₹39 crores. On Monday, he inaugurated 14 barracks and stated that 356 barracks will be constructed at an estimated cost of ₹200 crores to improve the deployment conditions for women in BSF-protected border areas. He also mentioned the commencement of a lateral road construction in the Rajasthan desert, which will provide better facilities and connectivity for BSF personnel.
Innovations in Border Security
Shah noted that work is underway on a newly designed fencing system, and drinking water supply through pipelines has been initiated at around 180 border posts in Rajasthan. He highlighted the significant contribution of central armed police forces to environmental conservation through tree plantation campaigns, revealing that approximately 7.35 crore trees have been planted by personnel over the past five years. He planted a khejri sapling, emphasizing its importance in desert regions.
