Guwahati, Apr 7: During a significant election rally in Patharkandi, Sribhumi district, Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched a fierce critique of the Congress party.
Shah emphasized that the BJP is the only party capable of protecting the state from illegal immigration and preserving its cultural heritage. He stated that if the BJP is re-elected, they will systematically identify and remove infiltrators.
He confidently asserted that with BJP-NDA governments in Assam, West Bengal, and Tripura, illegal infiltration would be entirely halted. The upcoming two-phase elections in West Bengal are scheduled for April 23 and 29.
Shah accused illegal migrants of taking jobs, ration benefits, and wages intended for local youth, impoverished families, and tea garden workers in Assam.
He criticized Congress for engaging in 'vote bank politics' by supporting infiltrators, claiming that the party has failed to take decisive action against illegal immigration, which has significantly affected Assam's demographic and socio-political landscape. He reiterated that protecting the state's identity and resources is a core aspect of the BJP's electoral strategy.
Shah pointed out that previous Congress administrations weakened legal protections by abolishing the Immigrants (Expulsion from Assam) Act of 1950 and implementing the IMDT Act in 1983, which he argued provided refuge to illegal migrants.
He also condemned Congress for opposing the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), asserting its necessity for safeguarding persecuted minorities.
Additionally, Shah mentioned that the BJP is dedicated to renaming Karimganj as 'Sribhumi' to honor the region's cultural legacy.
In a personal jab, Shah criticized Rahul Gandhi, claiming that under his leadership, Congress has deteriorated in public discourse and vowed that Assam would not become an 'infiltration-prone state'.
He concluded by reaffirming the BJP's commitment to safeguarding Assam's land, identity, and economic interests, urging voters to reject Congress's divisive and appeasement-driven politics. Shah expressed confidence that Assam would deliver a significant victory for the BJP to eliminate infiltration.
