Silchar, April 7: During an election rally in Hailakandi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah emphasized the importance of fostering development that is free from infiltration. He stated that the long-term prosperity of Barak Valley relies on robust internal security and effective governance.

While campaigning for BJP candidate Milon Das, Shah highlighted the dual focus on security and economic advancement, asserting that a secure and peaceful environment is essential for attracting investments, creating jobs, and ensuring the effective implementation of welfare programs.

“Sustainable development can only be achieved in an atmosphere of peace and stability. Without security, progress cannot endure,” he remarked.

Shah pointed out the achievements of the BJP-led governments at both the national and state levels, noting significant improvements in law enforcement while also advancing infrastructure and social development throughout the region.

Outlining a development strategy for Barak Valley, he mentioned ongoing and planned enhancements in road connectivity, healthcare facilities, and administrative decentralization.

He specifically referred to the establishment of the Assam Secretariat for Barak Valley in Silchar, which he believes will minimize the need for long-distance travel to Dispur and enhance regional governance.

Shah also discussed investments in healthcare, including medical and cancer care services, aimed at improving accessibility and health outcomes.

In terms of welfare initiatives, he particularly focused on programs aimed at tea garden communities.

“Before Prime Minister Narendra Modi took office in 2014, daily wages for tea garden workers in Assam were merely Rs 94. Under the BJP administration, this has risen to Rs 258,” he stated.

He further committed to increasing wages to Rs 500 per day within the next five years.

Additionally, Shah mentioned that approximately 3.5 lakh families across 700 tea gardens have received land pattas, granting them long-awaited land ownership rights.

“In the initial phase, this initiative has been completed in 106 tea estates across 20 districts,” he noted, describing it as a significant advancement for tea garden workers.

Shah also outlined further commitments for farmers and marginalized groups, including increased income support, guaranteed procurement at minimum support prices (MSP), subsidies for agricultural mechanization, financial aid for women, affordable essential goods, and housing for economically disadvantaged individuals.

He credited the state government for markedly enhancing the law-and-order situation, stating that peace accords and initiatives to integrate youth into mainstream society have transformed Assam from a state of unrest to one focused on growth and development.

In his appeal for electoral support, Shah urged voters to back the BJP and its ally Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), emphasizing that stable governance would expedite development in Hailakandi and the broader Barak Valley area.

“A stable government will guarantee that security-driven development continues to benefit all segments of society,” he concluded.
