Ambati Rayudu Takes Charge as Director of Cricket Operations at HCA
Ambati Rayudu's New Role
Former Indian cricketer Ambati Rayudu has been appointed as the Director of Cricket Operations for the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA). This announcement was made on Monday, marking a significant step for the HCA as it aims to bolster its leadership and promote cricket development in the area. Rayudu's three-year term is effective immediately.
Rayudu's Vision for Hyderabad Cricket
With a notable career in domestic cricket and experience representing India in limited-overs formats, Rayudu is set to play a pivotal role in the future of cricket in Hyderabad. His extensive international experience and understanding of modern cricket's demands are expected to provide a new outlook on the HCA's operations.
Rayudu's Enthusiasm and Commitment
Rayudu shared his excitement about his new position in a statement on X (formerly Twitter). He expressed, "I am thrilled to announce my appointment as the Head of Cricket Operations for HCA by Justice P Naveen Rao (SMC), M Jeevan Reddy (Secretary HCA), and the apex council. This is a fantastic opportunity to address some issues, but I am particularly eager to see the vast cricketing talent in Hyderabad and Telangana thrive and produce more players for the national team."
A Complex Relationship with HCA
Rayudu's appointment comes after a tumultuous history with the HCA, which began in 2019 when he accused the association of "rampant corruption." He claimed that team selections were influenced by political factors. Following this controversy, Rayudu departed from Hyderabad during the 2019-20 season, concluding his domestic career with Andhra and Baroda. This was not his first departure; after debuting in the 2001-02 season at just 16, he briefly played for Andhra in 2005-06 before returning to Hyderabad until 2009-10. His final stint with the team lasted from 2017-18 to 2019-20.
Rayudu's Cricketing Achievements
Throughout his career, Rayudu has played in 55 ODIs, six T20Is, and 97 first-class matches. He has also secured six Indian Premier League titles, winning three each with the Mumbai Indians and the Chennai Super Kings. After retiring from Indian cricket, Rayudu participated in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) and the ILT20 leagues in 2023 and 2024.
