Arrest of Suspect in Espionage Case
The police in Ambala have apprehended an individual accused of spying for Pakistan and providing sensitive information regarding a local Air Force station. According to DSP Crime Virendra Kumar, authorities received a tip-off about a suspicious person relaying defense-related information. The suspect, identified as Sunil, also known as Sunny, was taken into custody after a case was registered against him. During the interrogation, police seized his mobile phone, which revealed evidence of his dubious activities.
Investigations revealed that Sunil had been working as a contractor at the Air Force station since 2020, handling repair tasks.
Details of the Investigation
Police reports indicate that Sunil was in contact with a woman who solicited information from him, which he subsequently forwarded. Analysis of his phone indicated that he was transmitting information to a neighboring country, deemed an adversary. The police are continuing their investigation and analyzing the evidence collected. They noted that they had received intelligence about a suspect providing information related to the defense sector, particularly the Air Force.
Upon questioning, a case was filed against him, leading to his arrest.
Further Developments
Kumar informed a news outlet that Sunil's mobile device was confiscated, revealing several suspicious elements. He has been a contractor since 2020, responsible for maintenance work at the Air Force station. Reports suggest he was either taking photographs or sharing information. He was in contact with a woman who requested information, which he provided. According to his device, he was sending information to a neighboring country, which is considered hostile. However, this is based on his statement, and further investigation is required.
Currently, the suspect is under a four-day remand as the investigation is still in its early stages. Kumar elaborated, "The accused, Sunil, is a resident of Ambala. His father is a retired employee of Indian Railways. He is married with two children. The investigation is ongoing, and we will see what unfolds next." In a related incident, Haryana police recently arrested Devendra from Kaithal for allegedly providing information to the Pakistani army and ISI during the recent India-Pakistan conflict.
