AM Green India Golf Premier League Unveils Franchise Squads and $2 Billion Investment

The AM Green India Golf Premier League (IGPL) has officially announced its franchise squads during a grand event in New Delhi. With a commitment of $2 billion towards developing golf tourism in India, the league aims to transform the country's golfing landscape. Cricket legend Yuvraj Singh and IGPL CEO Uttam Singh Mundy highlighted the significance of this initiative for player development and tourism. The league will feature 15 events, including international venues, and promises an exciting team competition format. Introduction to the IGPL

On Thursday, the AM Green India Golf Premier League (IGPL) revealed the complete rosters for all ten franchises in a ceremony held in New Delhi. This milestone signifies a pivotal moment for professional golfers worldwide as they prepare to join their teams for the upcoming season. The announcement took place at a lavish event at The Oberoi, New Delhi, featuring cricket icon Yuvraj Singh and IGPL CEO Uttam Singh Mundy. Mundy emphasized the importance of promoting golf to enhance player development and tourism in India, while Yuvraj praised the introduction of team dynamics in a sport traditionally focused on individual performance.

$2 Billion Commitment for Golf Tourism

During the event, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, the Union Minister for Tourism, congratulated the IGPL on its ambitious plan to secure $2 billion in investments aimed at developing premier golf tourism destinations across India. The Minister characterized this commitment as a transformative moment for sports tourism in India, highlighting the country's potential as a high-value global destination.

Shekhawat stated, "The Indian Golf Premier League's initiative to inject two billion dollars into golf tourism infrastructure transcends mere sports; it strategically enhances Brand India. Countries like Mauritius, Vietnam, and South Africa have shown how golf can turn landscapes into sought-after destinations, attracting affluent visitors and generating year-round tourism revenue. The IGPL is positioning India to lead this narrative in Asia. Prime Minister Modi's vision for Viksit Bharat 2047 necessitates infrastructure that draws global investment and creates sustainable jobs."

League Structure and Events

The league will consist of 15 events, with ten taking place in India across the franchises' home cities and five held internationally. The first three international locations will be Mauritius, South Africa, and Congo, scheduled for later this month.

Competition Format

Each team will comprise four players. At every event, participants will compete for individual awards from a prize pool of ₹1.5 crore while also representing their teams. The two best scores from each team daily will contribute to the overall team standings. Points will accumulate throughout the season, culminating in rewards for the top three teams.

Vision for Development and Growth

Yuvraj Singh, Co-founder of IGPL, expressed enthusiasm for the team aspect, stating, "The team format will add excitement with its fast pace. I am excited about the plans to expand the game, which has immense potential."

Uttam Singh Mundy, CEO of IGPL, added, "We will host 15 events throughout the year. The intervals between IGPL events will allow our players to participate in international competitions on the International Series, Asian Tour, and other global tours. Our aim is to help them reach the highest levels, including the International Series and LIV Golf League."

Mundy also highlighted IGPL's commitment to enhancing the golf ecosystem by increasing the number of golf courses and driving ranges, making the sport more accessible. The 'Golf on Wheels' initiative will involve large vehicles equipped with gear and coaches visiting schools to promote golf at the grassroots level.
