Serious Charges Filed Against BJD Leader
In Bhubaneswar, the capital of Odisha, a leader from the opposition party Biju Janata Dal (BJD) is facing serious allegations of rape. This information was confirmed by the police on Thursday.
According to police reports, a case has been registered at the Laxmisagar police station against the accused under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including Section 64(2) (rape), Section 89 (abortion without the woman's consent), Section 296 (obscene acts), and Section 352 (criminal intimidation). Additionally, charges have been filed under Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The victim, now 19 years old, underwent a medical examination at Capital Hospital.
In her complaint, the victim alleged that a councillor from the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation had engaged in sexual relations with her under the false pretense of marriage, resulting in her pregnancy while she was still a minor.
She further claimed that the councillor coerced her into having an abortion and promised to marry her after divorcing his wife. The victim stated, 'When I asked him about marriage, he threatened me and told me to leave Bhubaneswar.' As of now, the councillor has not been arrested, and there has been no comment from the BJD regarding this matter.
