Allegations of Police Misconduct in Punjab: ASI Suspended After Drug Planting Incident

A shocking incident in Punjab has led to the suspension of an Assistant Sub-Inspector after he was allegedly caught on hidden camera attempting to frame a local Shiv Sena leader by planting drugs. The police have initiated an investigation into the matter, raising serious questions about the integrity of the officers involved. The case began with the arrest of the leader's driver, but new evidence has shifted the focus onto police misconduct. As the investigation unfolds, it remains to be seen whether this was an isolated incident or part of a larger scheme.

Serious Allegations Against Punjab Police

A troubling incident has emerged from Punjab, where an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) is accused of attempting to frame a local leader of the Shiv Sena (Punjab), Mahant Kashmir Giri, in a false drug case. The alleged misconduct was captured on a hidden camera installed in the leader's home. Following the release of the video, senior police officials promptly suspended ASI Sukhdhev Singh and established a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the matter.

Immediate Actions Taken by Police

In light of these developments, the police have ordered the immediate release of the Shiv Sena leader from the case. The investigation will now also scrutinize the roles of all officers involved in the raid and subsequent arrest.

The Incident's Origin

The controversy began with the arrest of Gurjant Singh, the driver of Mahant Kashmir Giri, who was allegedly found in possession of 7.5 grams of heroin. During police questioning, Giri's name surfaced, prompting the police to prepare for action against him. However, the situation took a turn when CCTV footage revealed new evidence.

ASI's Actions Caught on Camera

The incident reportedly occurred on Saturday afternoon when ASI Sukhdhev Singh, dressed in plain clothes, visited Giri's residence. Unbeknownst to him, a hidden camera recorded him entering the room and allegedly placing an object beneath the mattress.

Police Arrives and Arrests

Shortly after, a police team, including the local station house officer Vijaypal Singh and City-2 station officer Tarvinder Kumar Bedi, arrived at the scene. They claimed to have discovered 30 grams of heroin under the same mattress during their search, leading to the arrest of Mahant Kashmir Giri.

Swift Action by Senior Officials

Upon reviewing the hidden camera footage on Saturday evening, senior officials found ASI's actions suspicious, revealing a potential conspiracy. SSP Darpan Ahluwalia of Khanna ordered Giri's release and suspended ASI Sukhdhev Singh the following day. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) was also formed to investigate the entire incident.

Investigation Led by Senior Police Officer

Given the seriousness of the case, the SIT will be led by an officer at the Superintendent of Police (SP) level. The team is tasked with connecting all aspects of the incident and examining the involvement of other police personnel. The investigation aims to determine the motives behind ASI's alleged actions and whether other officers were aware of the situation during the raid and arrest.

Concerns Raised Over Police Conduct

The emergence of the hidden camera footage has raised significant questions regarding police conduct. The SIT's investigation is expected to clarify whether this alleged conspiracy involved only one officer or if a larger network was at play.
