Allegations of Mossad Assassination Plot Against Pakistan's Military Chief Denied
Claims of Assassination Plot
Geneva: A Brazilian journalist has made a startling assertion that Israel's intelligence agency, Mossad, allegedly planned to assassinate Pakistan's military chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, along with the entire Pakistani delegation during peace discussions between the US and Iran in Geneva. This claim was made by Pepe Escobar, a geostrategic expert, but has been firmly rejected by Pakistan.
Pakistan and Qatar are currently acting as mediators in the ongoing peace talks between the US and Iran, with delegations from both nations present at the Burgenstock resort in Geneva. Escobar revealed his claims during a podcast hosted by political commentator Mario Nawfal, stating, “The Pakistani military received highly credible information that Mossad was preparing, under Netanyahu's orders, an assassination attempt against Asim Munir and possibly the rest of the Pakistani delegation.”
He further alleged that Pakistan issued a warning to Israel through Oman, saying, “If you touch our delegation, we’re going to wipe you off the map, period. I'm quoting. This is what our source told us.” However, no evidence was provided to substantiate these claims.
Official Response from Pakistan
Pakistan Official Dismisses the Allegations
Officials from Pakistan have categorically rejected Escobar's assertions. A security official stated, “Absolutely rubbish and complete nonsense. Nothing of this sort occurred,” as reported by Kamran Khan, chairman of Pakistan's ARY News. The official emphasized that security measures were fully operational during the visit of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Munir.
Additionally, Pakistani journalists have also refuted these claims. Senior journalist Syed Talat Hussain described Escobar’s statements as “utter nonsense,” asserting on social media, “This is utter nonsense. Not even a shred of truth to it. NOTHING of the sort ever occurred.”
It is important to note that both Israel and Pakistan are nuclear-armed nations and view each other as adversaries, with Pakistan not recognizing Israel as a legitimate state.
