Disturbing Allegations of Abuse and Rape

A woman from Bijnor district in Uttar Pradesh has come forward with serious allegations against her husband, claiming he physically assaulted her and subsequently forced her into 'nikah halala' after pronouncing triple talaq. In her police complaint, she detailed her marriage to Nadeem, which took place nearly a year ago. Despite her family providing dowry items such as household goods, furniture, a motorcycle, jewelry, and 200,000 rupees in cash, she stated that her in-laws were never satisfied and subjected her to both physical and mental harassment.

On the night of May 19, she reported that her husband attacked her, causing severe pain in an area previously operated on. She alleged that while she was in pain, Nadeem uttered 'talaq' three times and ordered her to leave the house. The following day, she sought help from the police, but her husband and his family convinced her to return home with the promise of remarrying her.

According to her complaint, before the planned remarriage on May 30, Nadeem allegedly insisted that she first undergo 'halala' with his elder brother, Wasim. She claimed to have resisted this demand but later accused Wasim of raping her under the guise of halala. Furthermore, she alleged that she was prevented from informing her family, kept confined at home, and faced violence whenever she attempted to leave.

Eventually, she managed to contact relatives, who came to her aid and took her away. Despite reaching out to the police again, her initial complaint was not registered until she approached the Superintendent of Police in Bijnor. Following her complaint, the police filed a case against Nadeem and a separate case of rape against Wasim. The FIR also names Wasim's wife, Nagma, who is accused of aiding the alleged perpetrator.
