Court Orders UP Government to Respond

Lucknow: The Allahabad High Court has requested the Uttar Pradesh government and the state public service commission to respond to a petition contesting the results of the PCS (Combined State Upper Subordinate Services) Preliminary Examination, 2025, along with the Assistant Conservator of Forests Preliminary Examination.

On December 19, Justice Manish Mathur of the single bench granted a three-week period for the Uttar Pradesh government and the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) to submit their responses, scheduling the next hearing for January 22, 2026.

The court was addressing a writ petition submitted by Manish Kumar and three other candidates.

The petitioners argued that they participated in the PCS preliminary examination as OBC candidates and achieved scores surpassing the general category cut-off.

According to the Reservation Act and Migration Rules, candidates from reserved categories who score equal to or above the general category cut-off without any special concessions should be placed in the general category, as stated in the petition.

However, the petitioners claimed they were unjustly denied the advantages of these regulations and were excluded from the main examination.

Following the petitioners' arguments, the court instructed the state government and UPPSC to file counter-affidavits regarding the issue within three weeks.
