Disturbing Allegations Surface at TCS Nashik

A deeply troubling incident has emerged from the Nashik branch of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), involving allegations of sexual harassment and religious discrimination. A female employee has bravely shared her harrowing experiences of both physical and mental abuse inflicted by her colleagues. So far, nine FIRs have been filed, leading to the arrest of eight individuals. This woman is among over a dozen who have spoken out against harassment and forced religious conversion attempts in the workplace.

Victim's Account of Harassment

Recalling the traumatic events, the victim described how a colleague groped her and insulted her deities. She joined TCS Nashik as an associate in July 2024, unaware that her time there would be marred by mockery regarding her deities and her body shape.

Escalating Incidents of Abuse

The situation escalated when one of the arrested suspects, Shafi Sheikh, sat next to her and began rubbing his legs against hers. He then used the excuse of accessing the keypad to touch her inappropriately. Shocked, she moved away, while Shafi merely smiled and left. She is one of several women who have filed complaints regarding workplace sexual harassment and forced religious conversion, with nine FIRs lodged based on the survivors' testimonies.

Toxic Work Environment

The survivor described the workplace atmosphere at the Nashik center as 'terrifying,' claiming that a group of accused employees operated with impunity, shielded by senior management. She further alleged that senior officials, including the Assistant General Manager, discouraged employees from filing complaints, effectively protecting the accused.

Continued Harassment and Disrespect

The victim reported inappropriate touching and derogatory comments about her deities, questioning her religious beliefs in a disrespectful manner. She has been employed at TCS Nashik since July 12, 2024, currently working in a team handling tele-calling operations for bank credit card holders with outstanding dues.

Specific Incidents of Misconduct

She recalled that the harassment began during a training session in September 2024, where another accused, Asif Ansari, stood in front of her, leering at her chest and making sexually explicit remarks. Feeling humiliated, she left the scene. She also accused Ansari and co-accused Tausif Attar of frequently leering at her and making inappropriate comments about her appearance.

Religious Insensitivity and Mockery

In February 2026, she alleged that Attar made derogatory remarks about Hindu scriptures and deities, questioning the number of wives a god had and how a deity could be unaware of their child. These comments were not only disrespectful but also deeply offensive.

Ongoing Investigations and Arrests

The victim recounted that between September 2024 and February 2026, several accused employees, including Asif Ansari and Shafi Sheikh, made lewd comments about her body, causing her significant embarrassment and distress. To date, eight arrests have been made, including a female employee and the now-suspended operations manager, Ashwini Chainani. The ninth accused, Nida Khan, a tele-caller who has also been suspended, is currently in Mumbai and has applied for interim anticipatory bail, which has been denied by the court.

TCS's Response to Allegations

Last week, TCS stated that it had not received any complaints regarding ethics or sexual harassment prevention (POSH) channels from employees at its Nashik BPO unit between 2022 and 2026, the period during which these incidents allegedly occurred. However, investigators informed a media outlet that despite numerous verbal complaints—ranging from harassment to physical assaults—accused individuals continued their behavior without fear of repercussions.
