Akhil Gogoi, leader of the Raijor Dal, confidently predicts that the Congress-led coalition will win over 70 seats in the Assam Assembly elections, dismissing exit poll forecasts. He emphasizes the need for secure storage of electronic voting machines and raises concerns about the presence of BJP workers in strong rooms during voting. As the election results approach, the political landscape in Assam remains tense and uncertain.

Akhil Gogoi Dismisses Exit Poll Predictions

On Saturday, Akhil Gogoi, the leader of the Raijor Dal, rejected the forecasts from exit polls, asserting that the Congress-led coalition will secure over 70 seats in the Assam Assembly elections. Speaking to reporters in Guwahati, Gogoi emphasized the importance of securing the storage rooms for electronic voting machines (EVMs). He stated, "We will easily form the government and will win more than 70 seats. The people of Assam have voted for change. Let the government promote itself. The number of voters is in the millions, while the exit poll sample size is only in the thousands. What is the value of their voice?"

Exit Polls Favor NDA for Third Consecutive Term

According to the exit polls conducted in Assam, the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is projected to remain in power for a third consecutive term. Estimates from Axis My India suggest that the NDA will win between 88 to 100 seats out of 126, while the Congress-led coalition is expected to secure between 24 to 36 seats. JVC predicts 88 to 101 seats for the NDA and 23 to 33 for the Congress alliance. The AIUDF is anticipated to win 0 to 2 seats, with other parties expected to gain three seats. Matrix forecasts 85 to 95 seats for the BJP-led alliance, 25 to 32 for the Congress-led coalition, and 6 to 12 for other parties.

Concerns Over Strong Room Security

Addressing the issue of strong room security, Gogoi criticized the BJP, stating, "We must ensure the security of the strong rooms. The situation in Assam is similar to that in Bengal. They have weakened the voter lists in the SIR and previously conducted delimitation. They will continue to do so, but the public desires change." On the same day, Assam Congress President Gaurav Gogoi accused the BJP and the Election Commission of irregularities in strong room management, claiming that the ruling party is attempting to "save itself through theft" as it cannot secure electoral victory based on its governance.

Gaurav Gogoi Raises Alarm Over Election Integrity

Gaurav Gogoi informed a news agency that they are observing similar patterns at various polling stations in Assam: BJP workers are not only present inside the strong rooms but were also there during the voting process. He raised a critical question, asking, "What is the Election Commission doing? This poses a serious threat to democracy."
