Akal Takht's Guidance Influences MLA's Decision on Assembly Participation

In a significant move, MLA Ganiv Kaur Majithia has reached out to Akal Takht's Jathedar for guidance on her participation in the upcoming Punjab Assembly session. Following controversial remarks labeling Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann as a 'Guru Dhokhi', Majithia, who identifies as both a Sikh and an elected representative, is grappling with her responsibilities. She emphasizes the importance of aligning her actions with the directives of Akal Takht, the highest Sikh authority, as she navigates her commitment to her faith and her role in governance. The assembly session is scheduled to begin on August 3.

MLA Seeks Clarity from Akal Takht

Chandigarh, August 1 - On Saturday, Ganiv Kaur Majithia, a member of the Akali Dal, reached out to Akal Takht's Jathedar, Giani Kuldeep Singh Gurdj, requesting clarification on whether she should participate in the upcoming assembly session following the controversial video incident. The Chief Minister, Bhagwant Mann, was labeled as a 'Guru Dhokhi' (opponent of the Gurus) and anti-Khalsa Panth based on orders issued by the Jathedar on June 15, which advised the Sikh community to distance themselves from the Chief Minister.

Majithia emphasized her dual role as an elected representative and a Sikh, stating that balancing her constitutional duties with her commitment to Gurmat (the path laid out by the Gurus) is only feasible if she acts in accordance with the guidance of Akal Takht, the highest religious authority for Sikhs. She expressed that witnessing someone declared as a 'Guru Dhokhi' in such circumstances contradicts her inner beliefs and faith.

As a dedicated servant of Akal Takht and a Sikh, Majithia feels unfit to attend the assembly session under these conditions. She asserted that the command of the Guru is paramount, and thus, the directives from Akal Takht will serve as her ultimate guidance. The Punjab Assembly's monsoon session is set to commence on August 3 and will continue until August 10.
