Ajinkya Rahane Responds to Criticism After KKR's Defeat in IPL 2026
Match Overview
In the IPL 2026 match held on April 2, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) faced off against Sunrisers Hyderabad. After winning the toss, KKR opted to bowl first. Sunrisers Hyderabad showcased an impressive batting performance, scoring 226 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in their 20 overs, thanks to explosive innings from Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, Nitish Kumar Reddy, and Heinrich Klaasen.
In response, KKR struggled significantly, getting bowled out for just 161 runs in 16 overs. Angkrish Raghuwanshi was the top scorer for KKR with 52 runs, while Rinku Singh contributed 35 runs. The rest of the batting lineup failed to make a significant impact, leading to a disappointing defeat for KKR.
Ajinkya Rahane Addresses the Loss
Following the humiliating defeat, KKR's captain Ajinkya Rahane expressed his frustration. He managed to score only 8 runs off 10 balls before being dismissed. Critics raised concerns about his strike rate, to which Rahane responded after the match.
“My strike rate has been the best since 2023. Those who are commenting probably haven't watched the match or have a personal agenda against me. They don't like my style of play. I believe my success makes them envious.”
Rahane's Response to Critics
Ajinkya Rahane further addressed his critics, stating,
“I’m not overly concerned. My intention was clear. Sometimes, as a batsman, you just can’t find your rhythm. Those who are commenting either don’t understand the game or expect me to play differently. They didn’t anticipate that I would improve my game so much. I’m glad they’re talking about me, whether it’s positive or negative. Let them talk.”
He added,
“I know what I’m doing. I’m aware of my past performances. Instead of worrying about others’ opinions, I trust myself. Let those who are discussing this continue to do so.”
