Rahane's Fitness Update Following Injury

Ajinkya Rahane shared insights regarding his fitness after exiting the field during the Kolkata Knight Riders' inaugural match of the IPL 2026 against the Mumbai Indians on March 29.


The incident took place in the fourth over of Mumbai's innings when Rahane collapsed and required immediate medical assistance. Despite the efforts of the physios, he was unable to continue and needed help to leave the field. In his absence, vice-captain Rinku Singh took over the leadership role.


Rahane Addresses Calf Cramps

During the post-match presentation, Rahane provided clarity on his condition, stating, "I’m feeling okay, just experiencing significant cramps in both calves. I hope to recover soon. It was quite challenging."


Rahane's Performance Before Injury

Prior to his injury, Rahane had made a substantial contribution with the bat, scoring 67 runs off 40 balls. His innings included several impressive shots, and he partnered with Angkrish Raghuvanshi, who contributed 51 runs off 29 balls, leading KKR to a strong total of 220/4 in their 20 overs.


Mumbai Indians' Record Chase

In response, the Mumbai Indians executed a record chase. Rohit Sharma scored 78 runs off 38 balls, while Ryan Rickelton was the top scorer with 81 runs off 43 balls. Their opening partnership of 148 runs marked the second-highest in IPL history, setting a solid foundation for their chase.


Rohit also achieved his fastest IPL fifty, reaching the milestone in just 23 balls, making him the fourth player to achieve 50 scores of 50 or more runs in the league, joining the ranks of Virat Kohli, David Warner, and Shikhar Dhawan.


KKR's Bowling Struggles

KKR's bowling lineup, which included Sunil Narine, Kartik Tyagi, and Vaibhav Arora, managed to take one wicket each but struggled to contain Mumbai's batting onslaught. Ultimately, MI secured victory by six wickets with five balls remaining, marking their highest successful chase in IPL history.
