Rahane Stands Firm Amid Criticism

Ajinkya Rahane, the captain of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), defended his performance after the team's second consecutive loss in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. He highlighted that his strike rate has been impressive since 2023, suggesting that the negativity directed at him might be rooted in bias or jealousy.

Sunrisers Hyderabad Triumphs Over KKR

In a dominant display, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) secured their first victory of the 2026 IPL season, defeating KKR by 65 runs in Kolkata. Key contributions came from Heinrich Klaasen and Abhishek Sharma with the bat, while bowlers Jaydev Unadkat, Eshan Malinga, and Nitish Kumar Reddy excelled. Rahane, playing his 200th IPL match, struggled, scoring only eight runs off 10 balls at a strike rate of 80 during a challenging chase.

Rahane Defends His Game Amid Jealousy Claims

Rahane pointed out that since IPL 2023, only Abhishek Sharma from SRH has a superior strike rate (176.56) compared to his own (167.78) among Indian players in the powerplay. He expressed, "My strike rate is among the best since 2023. Those criticizing me may not be following the game closely or might have an agenda against me. They seem to be envious of my success."

He further emphasized that while he may not always find his rhythm, his intent at the crease remains strong. Rahane remarked, "Sometimes, as a batter, you may not hit your stride. Critics often misunderstand the game or expect a different approach from me. I am pleased that people are discussing my performance, whether positively or negatively. Partnering with Finn Allen has been beneficial, and during the initial overs, playing with freedom is crucial. Struggles are part of the game, and acceptance is key."

Rahane's IPL Career Highlights

Ajinkya Rahane ranks as the ninth-highest run-scorer in IPL history, amassing 5,107 runs across 185 innings, averaging 30.58 with a strike rate of 125.32. His career includes two centuries and 34 half-centuries, with a personal best score of 105*.

KKR's Tough Start to the Season

KKR has faced a challenging beginning to the season, suffering two losses in their opening matches, marking only the second time in the franchise's history this has occurred. The three-time IPL champions are eager to recover quickly, with upcoming matches against Punjab Kings on April 6 and Lucknow Super Giants on April 9.
