Aizawl International Half Marathon Set for February 14
Aizawl, Feb 4: The upcoming Aizawl International Half Marathon (AIHM) is scheduled for February 14, as announced by Mizoram's Sports Minister, Lalnghinglova Hmar.
This year's marathon promises to be more extensive, attracting a wider range of talent and significantly boosting the state's sports tourism sector.
The race will commence and conclude at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, according to Hmar.
"With the railway network recently extended to Sairang near Aizawl, we expect an unprecedented turnout of athletes and spectators from all over the nation," he stated.
Additionally, professional runners from various countries are anticipated to participate, with the total prize money exceeding Rs 15 lakh.
Hmar emphasized that the AIHM is crucial for promoting public health and showcasing Mizoram's rich cultural heritage.
"The AIHM is not merely a race; it represents Mizoram's introduction to the world. It has become a staple on our tourism calendar, aimed at highlighting the state's natural beauty and warm hospitality," he remarked during a press conference on Tuesday.
The inaugural half-marathon took place in April of the previous year, attracting 1,500 participants from across the country.
