AIUDF's Election Strategy for Assam

Moulana Badruddin Ajmal, the leader of the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), has engaged in discussions with leaders from Kerala's United Democratic Front regarding the upcoming 2026 Assam Assembly elections. The AIUDF plans to contest 35 seats in the elections, which encompass a total of 126 assembly seats in Assam. Speaking to a reporter in Guwahati, Ajmal congratulated the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), led by Asaduddin Owaisi, for its performance in the Bihar elections.

AIUDF's Confidence in Upcoming Elections

Ajmal emphasized that the party is gearing up to compete in 35 seats for the 2026 Assam Assembly elections, asserting that the AIUDF will outperform Congress. He stated, "We will contest 35 seats in the upcoming elections, and our results will surpass those of Congress." He expressed confidence, citing the grassroots efforts of party workers and the political outcomes in Bihar. Ongoing discussions with AIMIM and UDF are also taking place, with meetings and rallies already initiated.

Political Landscape Post-2021 Elections

Following the 2021 Assam Assembly elections, the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) core committee resolved to sever ties with the AIUDF and remove it from the grand alliance. In 2021, Congress had formed a grand alliance led by ten parties. On November 12, seven opposition parties announced the revival of the Assam Sonmilito Morcha to challenge the BJP in the 2026 Assembly elections.

Opposition Unity in Assam

Leaders from Congress, Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP), Raijor Dal, CPI(M), and three other parties convened at the Assam Assembly Secretariat to pledge their commitment to contest the elections under a united banner.
