Airlifting Essentials to Flood-Hit Areas in Arunachal Pradesh

In response to severe flooding caused by monsoon rains in Arunachal Pradesh, the Upper Subansiri district administration has launched airlifting operations to deliver essential supplies to isolated communities. With roads and bridges severely damaged, helicopter services have been arranged to transport rice, medicines, and other vital commodities to the affected areas. This coordinated effort involves multiple departments to ensure the safe and efficient delivery of relief materials, addressing the urgent needs of those cut off from essential resources.

Itanagar, July 23: The administration of Upper Subansiri district has initiated airlifting operations to deliver vital supplies to the administrative circles of Nilling, Lingdam, and Upper Giba, which have been severely impacted by monsoon flooding that damaged infrastructure.

According to official reports, the heavy rains have caused significant damage to the roads linking Nilling and Upper Giba, with breaches occurring along the Nyo and Jao rivers. The bridge over the Jao river has been completely washed away, isolating 22 villages in Upper Giba from the district headquarters.

Additionally, around 20 villages in the Nilling circle are also cut off due to the destruction of road access, and transportation to Lingdam has been hindered, making it impossible to deliver essential goods by road.

In response to this emergency, the district administration has arranged for helicopter services to transport rice, medicines, and other necessary supplies to the affected regions. The Directorate of Civil Aviation in Arunachal Pradesh has sanctioned helicopter flights for July 22 and 23.

The helicopters are facilitating the delivery of relief materials from Daporijo to Lingdam and Nilling, ensuring that essential supplies reach the isolated communities.

To manage this operation effectively, the district administration, in collaboration with the Department of Civil Aviation, District Food and Civil Supplies Office, local administrations, police, and other relevant departments, has established thorough arrangements at the helipads. These include security measures, crowd control, fire and emergency services, cleanliness, obstacle removal, and adherence to DGCA safety protocols.
