Air India Enhances Safety Measures
Amid the ongoing investigation, Air India has shared details about the internal measures taken over the past year to enhance safety standards, improve aircraft reliability, and ensure employee welfare. According to an internal document, following the AI 171 incident, the airline implemented a "Safety Pause" and conducted thorough inspections of its Boeing 787-8 and 787-9 aircraft under the supervision of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation. No issues were identified during these inspections. Additionally, the airline examined the fuel control switch mechanisms of its Boeing 737 and 787-8 aircraft, finding no discrepancies. Air India noted that the extra ground time gained during this process allowed for accelerated upgrades aimed at enhancing aircraft reliability and reducing delays and operational disruptions.
Focus on Fleet Reliability
The airline has intensified efforts to improve the operational performance of its wide-body fleet, particularly the Boeing 787 and 777 aircraft. The document indicates significant progress in reliability programs for the Boeing 787 fleet over the past year. The implementation level of initial programs has increased from approximately 75% to 87%, while the number of reliability-related initiatives has risen from 36 to 45. During this period, the overall completion rate improved from 48% to 65%. Air India stated that these measures aim to achieve greater uniformity, efficiency, and long-term operational improvements across the fleet.
