Air India Extends Suspension of Flights on Tel Aviv-Delhi Route Amid Ongoing Crisis

In light of the ongoing crisis in West Asia, Air India announced on Thursday that it will continue to suspend its flights on the Tel Aviv-Delhi route until the end of July. Previously, the airline had planned to halt operations until the end of June, but due to the lack of clarity regarding the current security situation in the region, the major Indian airline has decided to extend the suspension for an additional month. A senior official overseeing Air India's operations in Israel informed a news agency that the schedule change was communicated yesterday evening. He stated that flights have been postponed until July 31 due to geopolitical circumstances.

Since the conflict in West Asia began at the end of February, airlines have been grappling with various challenges, including rising fuel prices and airspace restrictions, which have increased their operational costs. In April, the Indian airline had announced a suspension of operations until the end of May, which has now been further extended. Despite a ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran, uncertainties regarding the situation in West Asia have compelled most airlines to cease operations on the Tel Aviv route.

In addition to Israeli airlines like El Al, Israir, Arkia, and Air Haifa, only a few other international carriers have resumed operations, creating significant challenges for those traveling abroad for work, vacations, or family visits. The cancellation of Air India flights has raised considerable concern among over 40,000 Indians residing in Israel who wish to return to India for personal or professional reasons or to avoid uncertainties in the region. The limited options also mean increased costs, which is a major concern for Indian workers.
