AIMIM's Push for Unity in Bihar Elections

In Bihar, the All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM) is aiming to form a united front ahead of the upcoming state elections by joining the Mahagathbandhan. Sources indicate that the party's leader and legislator, Akhtarul Iman, has reached out to Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav with a letter requesting the inclusion of the Hyderabad-based party into the alliance.

In his letter, Iman emphasized that contesting elections together would prevent the fragmentation of secular votes, thereby enhancing the Mahagathbandhan's chances of forming the next government. However, he cautioned that delaying a decision on AIMIM's inclusion could be seen as a missed opportunity for the RJD. Iman stated that discussions have been held with RJD, Congress, and other coalition parties regarding their collaboration, and a proposal has been sent, urging them to make a prompt decision.

AIMIM leaders warned that if the RJD does not act, they should not expect AIMIM to remain allied with them post-elections. The competition for minority votes in the Seemanchal region is expected to be fierce, with Muslim voters comprising 67% in Kishanganj, 38% in Katihar, 32% in Araria, and 30% in Purnia. RJD's Tejashwi Yadav participated in a rally at Gandhi Maidan in Patna, where he declared that if they come to power, they would discard the Waqf Act.
