AIADMK Maintains Unity Amidst Speculations
In Tamil Nadu, the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) has refuted rumors of internal divisions regarding support for the Tamilaga Vetrik Kazhagam (TVK). On Wednesday, the party emphasized its unity, stating that any decision to back TVK will ultimately rest with actor-turned-politician Vijay. AIADMK spokesperson Kovai Sathyan addressed journalists, asserting that there is consensus within the party and that the leadership will make the final call regarding potential alliances post-elections.
According to reports from a news agency, Sathyan affirmed that there is no rift within the AIADMK, highlighting that all members are in agreement. He mentioned that the next steps depend on Vijay, and the high command will decide based on the majority's opinion. If Vijay aims to realize his ambitions, the decision must come from him. He reiterated that the ball is now in Vijay's court, and he must carefully consider whether he wants to complete a five-year term or seek alliances with other parties. The governor has requested clarification regarding the number of legislators supporting TVK. Developments are ongoing.
Sathyan's remarks followed a gathering of over two-thirds of AIADMK legislators at C.V. Shanmugam's office in Chennai, where they urged party leadership to consider supporting TVK, which currently lacks a majority in the Tamil Nadu Assembly. Reports indicate that around 35 legislators participated in the meeting, requesting AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami to explore the possibility of an alliance with TVK. However, Sathyan clarified that no final decision has been made yet, reiterating that the high command will determine the next course of action.
He also noted that TVK has not formally requested support from any party. He added that if stability is desired, a decision must be made. There is some momentum currently, and the party will observe and wait.
