Ahmedabad Police Launches Major Operation Against Illegal Bangladeshi Immigrants
Joint Operation Targets Illegal Immigrants
On Wednesday, the Ahmedabad police, along with the crime branch, conducted a significant operation targeting suspected illegal Bangladeshi immigrants in various areas of Ahmedabad, including Chandola, Gulabnagar, and Khodiyar Nagar. According to Sharad Singhal, the joint police chief of the crime branch, the operation involved extensive searches late at night aimed at identifying and apprehending these individuals.
Detentions and Arrests Made
As part of this operation, a total of 290 individuals were taken into police custody, with the crime branch currently interrogating them. Out of these, 131 individuals have been arrested from different locations, while intensive questioning of an additional 160 suspects is ongoing. The authorities confirmed that the investigation is focused on uncovering more details regarding these suspected illegal immigrants.
Government's Firm Stance on Illegal Immigration
In response to the operation, Gujarat's Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi stated that the state's home department is adopting a stringent approach against Bangladeshi nationals residing illegally in the state. He noted that a coordinated effort is underway in cities such as Ahmedabad, Surat, Rajkot, and Vadodara to identify and detain these foreign nationals. The Deputy Chief Minister emphasized that thorough inspections and search operations are being conducted by police, the crime branch, and other agencies, resulting in the detention of numerous suspected Bangladeshi citizens during the nighttime raids.
Continued Efforts Against Illegal Immigration
Sanghvi reiterated that the Gujarat home department is committed to addressing the issue of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants. A special campaign is being executed across the state to identify and arrest foreign nationals living unlawfully. He further mentioned that the operation will persist in the future, reinforcing the government's stance against illegal immigration and the presence of foreign nationals without proper documentation.
