Agra Police Officer Accused of Poisoning Wife Over Dowry Demands
Incident Overview
In Agra, a police officer allegedly poisoned his wife over demands for a luxury vehicle. After falling ill, the woman called for help from neighbors, who rushed her to a hospital. Her family later took her to Mathura for treatment, where doctors referred her to Agra's SN Medical College.
The officer's wife claims that since their marriage, he has been demanding a flat and a Fortuner as dowry. She reported that he frequently abuses her and, on Sunday, he forced her to ingest poison. The officer is stationed at the New Agra police station, and she filed a complaint with the station's SHO, who dismissed her concerns, stating she wouldn't be able to harm a police officer.
Meenakshi, the victim, hails from Chandpur village in Faridabad. Her mother revealed that she married Lokesh Bhati from Badaun on April 21, 2021. Lokesh is currently assigned to the New Agra police station, and the couple resides in a rented home in Lawyers Colony with their six-month-old child.
Although Meenakshi's family provided a Scorpio as dowry, Lokesh continues to demand a Fortuner. He has threatened to divorce her if his demands are not met and has been involved with other women. When she opposed his affairs, he resorted to physical violence. After the poisoning incident, they reported him to the police, but instead of assistance, they faced intimidation from the officers.
Meenakshi recounted that on Sunday, Lokesh came home for lunch around 3 PM. After eating, he engaged in conversation before abruptly ending a phone call. He then confronted her about her lack of response to his demands for a flat and a Fortuner.
She stated, 'My father spent one crore on our wedding, and we cannot afford to fulfill your demands.' Following this, he began to assault her and ultimately poisoned her. After realizing her condition, Lokesh fled the scene, and neighbors took her to the hospital.
Despite attempts to seek help from the police commissioner and Lokesh's station, Meenakshi was met with threats instead of support. The station chief allegedly told her, 'Why are you pursuing this? What will you gain from it? He is a police officer, and you cannot do anything against him.'
Additionally, Lokesh's brother, who lives nearby, has reportedly harassed her after Lokesh's departure. When she informed Lokesh about this, he physically assaulted her. In response to the allegations, Lokesh claimed that a minor argument occurred due to his late return from duty, and he denied the dowry harassment accusations, stating that she had consumed a substance on her own.
