AGP Mobilizes Youth Ahead of Assembly Elections with Bike Rally in Biswanath
AGP's Youth Rally in Biswanath
Biswanath, Mar 5: As the state Assembly elections draw near, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) demonstrated its strength in Biswanath with a bike rally organized by its youth wing, the Asom Yuva Parishad, on Thursday.
The event saw participation from the central president, working president, and vice-president of the Parishad, along with AGP general secretary and former minister Prabin Hazarika, alongside hundreds of enthusiastic supporters.
The rally commenced at the AGP office and made its way to Biswanath Ghat, capturing significant public interest.
Jitu Baruah, the central president of the Asom Yuva Parishad, stated, “We are committed to reinforcing AGP's presence in areas where it has diminished and engaging the youth. Our youth wing has been conducting mass rallies statewide. Our aim is to displace the Congress and fulfill the vision for Assam articulated by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and the AGP.”
Additionally, the youth wing expressed its desire for the AGP to be allocated the Biswanath Assembly constituency in the forthcoming elections.
They argued that the party had upheld its alliance commitments by making sacrifices in the previous two Assembly elections and thus deserves the seat this time around.
Baruah further emphasized, “Former MLA Prabin Hazarika has been diligently working to restore the party's foundation here. We urge our alliance partner, the BJP, to grant us the Biswanath constituency.”
Previously, the state unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had declared that discussions regarding seat-sharing among the constituents of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) had been finalized.
In a press briefing on Wednesday night, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma mentioned that talks had taken place with key regional allies, including the AGP, Bodoland People’s Front (BPF), and the Rabha Hasong Joutha Sangram Committee, to finalize the seat distribution for the upcoming elections.
However, he noted that the final decision would only be announced after receiving approval from the BJP’s Central Parliamentary Board.
