Significant Arms Seizure in Kandahar

Kabul, March 13: Afghan border security has successfully intercepted 30 Beretta pistols during a focused intelligence operation in the southern Kandahar province, as reported by a local security official on Friday.

The operation took place in the Tor Kach area of Maruf district, where the firearms were seized while being smuggled into Afghanistan from a neighboring nation, according to Nazir Ahmad Shakeeb, spokesperson for the 205 Al-Badr Army Corps.

Shakeeb emphasized that Afghan security forces are diligently working to combat arms trafficking across the country's porous borders.

This seizure is part of a larger initiative by the Afghan government aimed at collecting weapons and ammunition from individuals not affiliated with official security forces, as well as preventing smuggling in border regions through increased security personnel deployment.

In December of the previous year, counter-terrorism police uncovered and confiscated a significant cache of weapons and ammunition in Khost province, as stated by the Ministry of Interior Affairs.

This operation yielded two rocket launchers, 15 hand grenades, 1,100 rounds of PK machine-gun ammunition, assorted ammunition, 24 rocket rounds, and 24 rocket propellant charges, all discovered during a series of counter-terrorism actions in Zazi Maidan district.

Three individuals were apprehended in connection with this seizure and will be handed over to judicial authorities after initial investigations.

In another operation, police found additional arms and ammunition in the neighboring Paktika province, continuing their efforts to eliminate unauthorized weapons.

Over the last four years, Afghan authorities have confiscated thousands of weapons and substantial amounts of ammunition in a nationwide campaign to bolster security and stability in the war-torn nation.

On November 30, 2025, local officials reported the discovery of a significant weapons cache in Uruzgan province, leading to the arrest of three individuals linked to the find.

Bilal Uruzgani, the provincial police spokesperson, noted that the weapons were concealed within a residential property and included various types of ammunition, hand grenades, rocket shells, bullets, and other munitions.

Authorities have launched further investigations to identify additional individuals who may be connected to this illegal arms cache.
