Thackeray's Allegations Against BJP

On Tuesday, Aditya Thackeray, a legislator from Shiv Sena (UBT), claimed that both the central and state governments led by the BJP are targeting students who participated in protests against irregularities in examinations. He assured legal assistance to students facing police action. Speaking to reporters, Thackeray noted that despite assurances of withdrawing cases against the protesters, many students in various states continue to confront legal challenges.

Ongoing Protests and Legal Support

Thackeray highlighted that protests have been ongoing in several cities for the past ten days, with young students taking to the streets in anger against the government. He mentioned that they were promised that FIRs would be withdrawn. The Shiv Sena (UBT) has decided to provide free legal representation for these students. He urged the Chief Minister to withdraw the FIRs and encouraged anyone receiving notices to forward them for legal support, stating that many lawyers are willing to fight these cases pro bono.

Concerns Over Police Brutality

He accused the authorities of using excessive force against the protesters and demanded accountability. Thackeray stated, "Students were met with AK-47s and other forms of violence. We will keep a close watch on those responsible for the excessive baton charges. The BJP's governance is against the youth." He also raised concerns regarding the MH-CET exam process, questioning whether any irregularities had occurred and calling for the government to clarify the situation, especially as many students are suffering losses.

Allegations of Suppressing Dissent

Thackeray accused the government of attempting to suppress online dissent, claiming that officials are trying to remove social media content related to the protests. His statements coincided with criticism from Sanjay Raut, a Rajya Sabha MP from Shiv Sena (UBT), who condemned the central government's handling of student protests. Raut alleged that while the BJP welcomes criminals, it targets students protesting against examination irregularities with criminal cases.
