Milestone Achievement in 'Make in India'

Gwalior, March 28: On Saturday, Adani Defence and Aerospace marked a significant milestone by delivering the initial batch of 2,000 Prahar Light Machine Guns (LMGs) to the Indian Armed Forces. CEO Ashish Rajvanshi described this event as a pivotal moment in the 'Make in India' initiative.

The 7.62 mm-calibre LMGs have been produced at Adani's Small Arms Complex situated near Gwalior.

Rajvanshi stated, “We have a commitment to deliver 41,000 LMGs over the next seven years, but given our current momentum, we anticipate completing this within three years for the Indian Armed Forces.”

He expressed confidence in the production rate, mentioning, “With the first 2,000 LMGs delivered, we aim to manufacture 1,000 LMGs each month, which is a remarkable achievement.”

The event saw the presence of A. Anbarasu, DG Acquisition from the Ministry of Defence, along with other senior officials from the company. Anbarasu subsequently flagged off trucks carrying the first batch of LMGs intended for the Army.

Rajvanshi emphasized the importance of this delivery in relation to the 'Make in India' strategy, stating, “It was crucial for us to acquire foundational technology from our partners.”

Reflecting on the journey, he noted, “It has taken us six years to reach this stage, beginning in 2020 with a vision for ‘Aatmanirbharta’. Initially uncertain about our direction, we have transitioned from being a component manufacturer to a full-fledged gun OEM, thanks to the dedication of our team and the support from policymakers.”

Anbarasu remarked on the capability to swiftly convert contracts into actual deliveries, highlighting the efficiency of the process.
