Abhishek Banerjee Criticizes Government Amid Rising Right-Wing Violence

Abhishek Banerjee, the National General Secretary of the All India Trinamool Congress, has condemned the central government for the rise in right-wing violence, particularly targeting minorities during Christmas. He shared a historical video of Atal Bihari Vajpayee advising against discrimination, emphasizing the current atmosphere of fear and hatred. He warns that silence in the face of such violence is complicity and that these actions threaten India's secular foundation.

Abhishek Banerjee's Strong Remarks on Targeted Attacks

The National General Secretary of the All India Trinamool Congress, Abhishek Banerjee, has criticized the central government for the surge in right-wing extremism following targeted attacks on Christians during Christmas. In a post on X, he shared a 2002 video featuring then-Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee advising then-Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi that a public representative must not discriminate among people. This press conference took place in the aftermath of the Gujarat riots.

Banerjee highlighted the increasing violence against Dalits, Scheduled Tribes, and minorities, accusing the central government of deliberately poisoning the atmosphere in India. He stated that right-wing forces, emboldened by power, are openly attacking these communities under the guise of religion, employing fear, lynching, threats, and hatred.

He further remarked that when those in power are the perpetrators of violence and reward the protectors of such acts, it leads to a culture of impunity. This is not governance; it is moral decay. Banerjee emphasized that these attacks are unconstitutional and illegal, undermining the secular foundation of the nation. He warned that such actions shatter the essence of India's unity in diversity, asserting that silence in the face of these issues is complicity, and history will not forgive this.

Banerjee's comments came in response to various incidents of vandalism and attacks by right-wing forces during Christmas celebrations across the country. Meanwhile, in Assam, police arrested four members of Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad for allegedly vandalizing property at St. Mary's English School ahead of the Christmas festivities. The identified individuals, Bhaskar De, Jyoti Padgiri, Biju Dutta, and Nayan Talukdar, were apprehended by Assam police following the incident.
