Abhishek Banerjee's Strong Response to BJP's Amit Malviya
Abhishek Banerjee, the general secretary of the Trinamool Congress, has issued a firm rebuttal to BJP leader Amit Malviya regarding the decision to hold re-elections in the Falta assembly constituency. Malviya had sarcastically remarked that the 'Diamond Harbour model' has completely failed. In response, Banerjee accused the BJP of being a 'Bengal-opposing Gujarati gang' and challenged them directly.
A Bold Challenge from Abhishek Banerjee
Banerjee launched a fierce attack on the BJP, asserting that no matter how many lifetimes their opponents may have, they will not be able to disrupt the 'Diamond Harbour model.' He issued a direct challenge, stating, 'Bring your strongest candidate or a prominent leader from Delhi to contest in Falta. If you have the courage, show us what you can do in this constituency.'
Understanding the Controversy Surrounding the 'Diamond Harbour Model'
The controversy erupted when Amit Malviya tweeted about the Election Commission's decision for re-voting. He claimed that the order for re-elections at all 285 booths in Falta indicates the collapse of the Diamond Harbour model. It is important to note that the Falta assembly constituency falls under the Diamond Harbour parliamentary seat, which is represented by Abhishek Banerjee. The re-elections are scheduled for May 21, with results expected on May 24.
Allegations of Intimidation Against TMC
The Election Commission's decision came after serious complaints were raised during the voting on April 29. Residents in the Falta area of South 24 Parganas alleged that TMC workers intimidated and threatened them. Concerns for their safety led to protests, and these complaints prompted the Commission to acknowledge electoral malpractice and order a re-vote.
BJP's Complaints Amid High Voter Turnout
Previously, around 90 percent voter turnout was recorded during the re-voting at 15 polling centers in the district, which was quite surprising. Malviya accused that during the second phase, voters were prevented from choosing their preferred candidates. Following these allegations and ground reports, the Election Commission mandated a complete re-election for the Falta seat.
